Every time I checked the Planet Microcap Showcase page of “attending companies” the list got longer (going from 70 companies to 115) meaning I may have set a new record for myself researching 115 stocks in the past month.
I was planning to have one summary article (Top 10 Picks) but given how many companies are attending I want to write three articles. A “Top 5” followed by the runner-ups (6 to 10) and then some honorable mentions. My future articles will give you what I consider to be the top 14% of companies after about 50+ hours of research and writing.
First though, I want to make sure we are all on the same page. I would like to speak about why I think Planet Microcap Showcase is so important, and then what types of companies will attract investors to become shareholders.
💪 This will help explain why I consider my “top picks” as the best potential options.
Lets get started.
Why is Planet Microcap Showcase so important ⁉️
Cash - Cash is King, especially in a bear market. These 500+ investors aren’t travelling to Vegas from all over the world with no cash in their accounts. These people are loaded up with cash hoping to find two or three companies that really impresses them enough to deploy that cash. I would not be shocked if you told me these 500+ investors had $10M in cash they expect to deploy buying stocks at Planet Microcap. Some of these stocks have $5,000 per day in volume, having that much capital at one event is no joke for illiquid little stocks. I will be watching the share price and volume of these stocks during the event, to see what people are buying.
Best investors - Day-traders aren’t travelling to Vegas to speak to companies. The people heading to Vegas are the types of investors that every microcap stock dreams about having as shareholders. Intelligent investors willing to reward good company execution with buying, holding, and buying more. This can stabilize share price with longer-term holds on large pieces of the float. When I see volume buying at Planet Microcap, I know that a company now has better support, with better shareholders, and less volatility in the future.
Support - Support comes in many different fashions for microcap stocks. From open market buying raising share price, to accredited investors willing to finance offerings - good microcap companies (usually) need capital to fund growth, and this is where you can find that capital. Especially important for any companies with active M&A.
Attention - Attention can mean social media attention, as more stocks today are found on social media than through stock screeners. It might mean large money investors buying their new favorite stock driving the share price up. Maybe the extra discussion is what gets a company noticed by institutions (I bet there are a few institutions attending Planet Microcap incognito) For some companies (especially the nanocaps and smaller microcaps) just getting on stock watchlists can result in future success, as a news release about a huge new contract reaches more eyeballs. For good companies, attention is needed as catalysts to increasing share price.
⏸️Conclusion: Planet Microcap will have some of the best microcap investors in the world attending. A good small company converting even a handful of these investors into shareholders can make a huge difference to their success as a publicly traded stock in both share price gains, and reduced volatility. Success breeds success, and this will attract other good investors.

🚀 What I believe investors are looking for!
Now we can debate this list (maybe you don’t agree with a point or two - and that’s fine) but if you disagree with this list completely then you might as well stop reading now.
👉 This is my core criteria for how I chose the stocks I did - and where I ranked them on the list.
The following are criteria that investors will be looking for to convince them to buy shares of a company presenting at Planet Microcap:
Good management - good pitch and believable.
Yes microcap investors love numbers, but you don’t travel to Vegas when you can read earnings in the comfort of your home office. Investors are looking to match good earnings, with good competent management teams. They want management to look them in the eye, and make commitments they can hold them accountable to. The qualitative matters, and in this case investors are looking for competent, confident, and honest.
Good company - preferably growing and profitable.
Every microcap investors dream is to find a consistently growing profitable company, with a great management team, a bright future, and a “cheap” share price - Cameron, Common Sense Investing
This is the quantitative part of investing, and is usually my #1 reason to buy shares of a company, but again with Planet Microcap being an in-person event where management pitch their company/ stock.. I have to bump the quantitative down to #2 my second most important reason for investing. Still VERY important, but managements teams of companies who aren’t quite “growing and profitable” yet, have a great chance to convince investors they will be soon, and why they should invest before them.
“Cheap” - good “risk verses reward” balance.
I know people will argue with me on this point, because there are some potentially good companies that won’t make my “top stocks” due to valuation reasons alone. Please keep in mind we are in a “bear market", there are some VERY good companies at VERY reasonable valuations right now. When there are so many high quality opportunities available, I am not in the mood to overpay for an unproven company based on an unknown future potential. Risk verses reward has to play a factor, and I am giving bonus points to a good balance sheet and positive cash flow - at a good price. I can’t say for sure, but I expect many investors attending Planet Microcap will agree with me.
“Secret” Knowledge - Inflection point or statement from management.
This is the “wildcard” of events like Planet Microcap, and is worth the price of admission. Management teams won’t say things they are not allowed to say, but they can emphasize commitments (and discuss expectations) that can be overlooked in the MD&A. I have already contacted some of the companies attending Planet Microcap, and I expect investors to be pleasantly surprised by at least a few companies who many be expecting better growth, better profitability, or a quicker timeline to achieving targets than investors expect. If I can extract that kind of information with a few phone calls, I expect the 1400+ private meetings booked at Planet Microcap will give investors some really good information that the general market has no idea about.
Social proof - we don’t want to admit it, but this matters.
I know we all claim to sit for weeks, shutting off the world and digging through earnings from A-Z all by ourselves as we pound back spicy cappuccinos. However, let’s be honest and admit it’s a great feeling to buy shares of a company, and have a few other respected investors say “so did I”. There are 249 other trading days in 2025 to invest by yourself, so enjoy Planet Microcap as a social event and share your opinions on your favorite stocks! Have discussions with other investors! Why is this important? If some of the best investors in the world buy a stock and explain why, I’ll admit I’ll open a spec buy position “sight unseen” with no research. We are social creatures, and some of the best stocks always seem to have the same investors as shareholders.
⏸️Conclusion: Generally I lean towards being a “quant investor” where my decision to buy/hold/sell a stock always tends to favor the numbers (quantitative) rather than a good pitch from management (qualitative). However I think at Planet Microcap I have to temporarily suspend my beliefs. These companies are committing time and resources to speak to investors, and I think that holds a bit more weight than your average earnings call or quarterly filing. So while ultimately the deciding factor for me is always the earnings, I have considered and given some extra attention to some companies I think meet more qualitative criteria (good management team, good pitch, competent, confident, etc…)
🔢Investing decisions are never black or white, right or wrong - as there is no perfect microcap stock. There are only imperfect companies struggling to improve, and investing in them is always some combination of compromise with a balance of probabilities. This means that nothing I say is concrete, and everything I say is debatable - my goal is to have open honest conversation. So feel free to disagree with me at any time, just makes sure you explain why, and keep it professional.

Seriously, this is NOT financial advice.
I mean it. None of this is financial advice—I say it all the time, and I genuinely mean it. I don’t know you. I don’t know your experience level, risk tolerance, debt situation, or anything else about your financial position. So please, don’t buy, sell, or hold a stock just because of my opinion in this article.
I’ve been wrong plenty of times, and I strongly encourage everyone to invest within their own capabilities and consult a financial advisor if needed.
Thank you! 🙏
